Xtro
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Xtro is a low-budget British science fiction/horror film made in 1983 and directed by Harry Bromley Davenport and co-produced by Bob Shaye. Its simple plot details the unexpected return to Earth of a devoted family man who was abducted by aliens three years ago, and now possesses unearthly powers.
Although it is supposedly an 'adult' spin on the hugely successful E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Xtro is actually more derivative of Norman J.Warren's 1980 shocker Inseminoid, which also features an unsettling alien rape scene. The most notorious (and still disturbing) scene in Davenport's film, however, is the special effects prosthetics extravaganza which sees a heavily pregnant woman giving birth to a fully-grown adult male, not surprisingly dying during the ordeal. Xtro was briefly vilified as a video nasty, but was granted an uncut video certificate by the BBFC shortly after its successful cinema run.
Two sequels to this movie were made:
- Xtro II: The Second Encounter
- Xtro 3: Watch the Skies
[edit] Trivia
Robotic/music duo Tik and Tok appeared as the Monster and the Commando in the film.
