Grand Rabbi Yeshayah Steiner of Kerestier (1851 - 3 Iyar,1925) was the founder of the Kerestier Hasidic dynasty in Hungary. He was born in the town of Zbarav, Hungary. When he was three years old, his father passed away. At the age of 12, his mother sent him to study with to Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Liska, the author of Ach Pri Tevua. Rabbi Yeshayah succeeded his mentor as Rabbi of Liska. At that point he became a student of Rabbi Chaim Halberstam of Sanz. After the passing of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, he became a disciple of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna. The Nadvorna Rebbe suggested that Reb Yeshaya'le should move to the town of Kerestir, where he became a famous Hassidic Rebbe. He was known as a miracle maker. A picture of him is believed to be an amulet by many Jews. Many believe that having his picture in one's house or place of business is a protection against infestation by mice, and other problems. He was succeeded by his son Avraham. His dynasty continues today by his descendants, the Grand Rabbis of Kerestir in Boro Park (Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rubin), Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY (Rabbi Yeshyah Gross), and Miami Beach, FL (Rabbi Refael Gross). They have strong connections to Satmar.
