[edit] Reception
When faced off on Thanksgiving against family films (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line) it almost failed to find an audience. It opened at number three, with an opening weekend of $17,461,108 in the US. It's final US gross is $53,359,917, and a worldwide gross of $68,759,917. With a production budget of $45,000,000 , the film proved to fair well.
- The remake was panned by critics worse than the original. Roger Ebert, a fan of the original bashed the remake badly. Other critics felt a remake was not needed, and that Rene Russo was nowheres near the league of Lucille Ball. Though some critics agreed that it did follow the basic plot of the original, it was still lacking in terms of the comedy the original had. On Rottentomatoes the remake stands at 5% against the 50% the original holds. Both of them are considered rotten though. Some positive reviews stated how it was nice to be refreshed with a remake, similar to how Cheaper By The Dozen was remade. However that film did alot better financially and critically. It is currently unknown if a sequel of the remake is planned, similar to how there was a Cheaper By The Dozen 2.
[edit] Trivia
- Drake Bell and Miranda Cosgrove also act as brother and sister on the Nickelodeon show Drake & Josh.
- Sean Faris was immediately cast as William Beardsley because of his "upright military posture".
- The house when both families collide under one roof is shot at the Disney Ranch. All the trees on the right side were digitally removed and the water was digitally added.
- The Beardsley family's first house when the movie opens happens to be the same house that Mr. and Mrs. Smith occupy for the film.
- When Frank points his finger at the two youngest children after they destroyed the chart with chalk, you can see that his finger is curved. Raja Gosnell mentioned in the commentary that Dennis Quaid did that in mention of his dad.
- Most of the boat scenes are not green screened.
- Mrs. Munion, Linda Hunt, is digitally added by green screen at the beginning when Frank asks her how New London is.
- Sean Faris and Katija Pevec also acted together in the 2004 film Sleepover.
- When Mrs. Munion watches television she appears to be watching WWE Programming, first was Royal Rumble 2005. Batista is shown giving Kane the Batista Bomb, another was showing her watching WrestleMania 21, showing Kane hitting somebody with a ladder. Incidentally, Viacom, parent of Paramount, also owns Spike TV, which aired WWE Raw from 2000-2005.
- Christian alternative rock band Hawk Nelson played the role of the party band in the film.
- When Drake Bell's character wakes up in frightment when listening to horrible insturment playing by Miranda Cosgrove's character, if you can look closely, you could see a magazine fall his face. On the back cover there is an ad for WWE SmackDown vs. RAW. Which was released in 2004. This movie was released in November 2005, and WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2006 was released after that time.
- This is the second Paramount/Columbia co-production to be released in 2005, the first being The Longest Yard, which was co-produced with MTV Films. Like Yours, Mine and Ours, The Longest Yard was a remake of an older film.
- The original Yours, Mine and Ours was released by United Artists, currently sister studio to MGM and Columbia after the Sony-led partnership bought MGM (of which UA was a subsidiary) in 2005.
- There are also many similarities between Yours, Mine and Ours and Cheaper By The Dozen, except one has 12 children and another, 18. In fact , it was released in some countries as Cheaper By The Dozen 3.
