Zubtsov

Zubtsov (Russian: Зубцо́в) is a town in Tver Oblast, Russia. It is located at , at the confluence of the Volga River and Vazuza Rivers, 153 km south of Tver, 18 km southeast of Rzhev, and 44 km southwest of Staritsa. Population: 7,430 (2002 Census); 8,100 (1998); 7,300 (2005).
Zubtsov was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1216. In the Middle Ages, it was a border fortress of the Principality of Tver. Muscovy annexed it with the rest of the Tver Principality in 1485. Subsequently, the town was important chiefly as a market for trade in flax. Its Neoclassical cathedral was constructed in 1801.
