Ayumi Hamasaki (浜崎 あゆみ, Hamasaki Ayumi, ur. 2 października 1978 r. w Fukuoce) - japońska piosenkarka muzyki Jpop. W swojej dotychczasowej karierze Ayumi wydała: 9 pełnych albumów, 4 kompilacje, 45 singli, 10 video albumów, 72 teledyski, 13 B-side, 2 collaborations i 18 DVD z koncertów. Ayu jest również uważana za cesarzową azjatyckiego popu tak jak Madonna królową, a Britney Spears czy Kylie Minogue - księżniczkami.

Ayumi Hamasaki urodziła się w japońskiej prefekturze Fukuoka. Jej matka ciężko pracowała by utrzymać rodzinę więc Ayumi zajmowała się babcia. Jako dziecko Hamasaki chciała zostać modelką. Przeprowadziła się do Tokio by wcielić marzenie w życie. Przed tym jednak otrzymała prace w banku w rodzinnym mieście. Przyszła piosenkarka śpiewała w klubach, gdzie została dostrzeżona przez Maxa Matsuura - jej przyszłego producenta. Ayumi wyjechała do Nowego Jorku, by szlifować talent. A Song for XX jest debiutanckim albumem piosenkarki.

1998–1999 - A Song for XX i Loveppears
W kwietniu 1998r. ukazał się pierwszy singel Ayumi Hamasaki poker face. Był to debiut piosenkarki w wytwórni Avex trax. Płyta znalazła się na #22 miejscu w rankingu Oricon. Drugim singlem wydanym w 1998r. był singel You (znalazł sie na #12 pozycji). Następnie single Trust, For My Dear... i Depend on You. Każdy dochodził na wyższe miejsce od poprzedniego. Piosenki z Depend on You zostały wykorzystane w grze video Thousand Arms. 1 stycznia 1999 Ayumi wydała swój pierwszy album A Song for XX. Sprzedano 1 451 910 kopii płyty. Następstwem albumu był siódmy singel Love ~Destiny~. Kolejne single to: To Be, Boys & Girls, A. Singel A został wydany w sierpniu 1999r. i był najlepiej sprzedającym się singlem w karierze piosenkarki. Sprzedano 1 600 000 kopii. 10 listopada 1999 wyszedł drugi album Hamasaki Loveppears (2 miliony sprzedanych kopii). Po sukcesie drugiego albumu Ayumi wydała single Appears, Kanariya i Fly High.

Na początku 2008 roku Ayumi doznała urazu lewego ucha co skończyło się utratą słuchu w nim. Mimo to Ayumi mówi, że kontynuuje swoją działalność jako piosenkarka.
