[edit] Summary
Description |
The map depicts the major expeditions in Australia between 1821 and 1837 AD as well as the major settlements founded during that period. All expeditions on the map were led by men of British descent and are therefore coloured in shades of red. The areas probably unknown to the Europeans in 1838 AD are shaded. Their borders and the tracks are only approximate. The names given are those of the leaders of the expeditions. Filled circles mark settlements which survived, empty circles denote settlements which were abandoned after some years or decades.
