Duran Duran é uma banda de Rock/New Wave. Eles fizeram parte da explosão New-Romantic no começo dos anos 80, assim como da Segunda Invasão Britânica nos Estados Unidos. Eles ainda são identificados como uma banda dos anos 80, apesar de terem continuado a gravar, tocar e a evoluir durante uma carreira de mais de vinte e cinco anos. O nome Duran Duran remete ao vilão do filme de ficção científica Barbarella,Dr.Duran.
O Duran Duran foi criado por Nick Rhodes (teclado) e John Taylor (baixo), com a adição posterior de Roger Taylor (bateria), Andy Taylor (guitarra) e Simon Le Bon (vocal). Também participaram da banda o guitarrista Warren Cuccurullo (1989-2001) e o baterista Sterling Campbell (1989-1991). O som definido pela banda é uma especie de os "Sex Pistols mais Chique".
Entre os seus principais sucessos, estão "Planet Earth" (o primeiro single), "Girls on Film", "Hungry Like the Wolf", "Save a Prayer", "Is There Something I Should Know?", "The Reflex", "The Wild Boys", "Notorious", "I Don't Want Your Love", "Ordinary World", "Come Undone", "Perfect Day" (cover de Lou Reed), "Electric Barbarella", "(Reach Up for the) Sunrise", "What Happens Tomorrow", além da trilha sonora para o filme de James Bond, "A View to a Kill", de 1985, considerada por muitos como a melhor música-tema da série de filmes do espião, entre outros muitos sucessos. Venderam mais de 80 milhões de discos desde a explosão em 1981, quando eram carinhosamente chamados de Fab-Five. Em janeiro de 1988, vieram ao Hollywood Rock no Brasil onde fizeram um show no Estádio do Morumbi em São Paulo e um outro show no Rio de Janeiro. Em 1993, a banda levou à America do Sul, a Wedding Album Tour, onde fizeram shows na Argentina, Uruguai e depois no Brasil, onde gravaram o videoclipe de "Breath after Breath" com Milton Nascimento nas Cataratas do Iguaçu.
Embora a banda nunca tenha se separado, passou por diversas mudanças em sua formação com o passar dos anos. A reunião dos cinco integrantes originais no começo do ano de 2001 criou grande interesse na indústria musical e fãs. O grupo lançou um novo álbum, Astronaut e viajou em turnê mundial durante 2005. Um novo disco sera lancado entre Janeiro e Fevereiro de 2007,ha boatos de que se chamara "Return To Tau Ceti" e de que foi baseado nas origens da banda(1981).
