This decade is expected to be called the "twenty-seventies".

• The Environmental Protection Agency will release the "Dredged Material Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement" which is a 73 year study (2001 - 2074) detailing the effect of waste material dumping in certain reservoirs in the United States.

• The United Nations estimates that the world population will peak at 9.1 billion.[1]

• Sedna - In 2076, around May 31, the planetoid 90377 Sedna is expected to reach its perihelion, in other words, reach the closest it can get, orbit-wise, to the Sun. It is expected to reach a distance of 76 AU, or 76 times the distance Earth is from the Sun. Sedna has a highly elliptical orbit, thus it is difficult to locate —at its aphelion, it reaches about 942 AU. This date is subject to adjustment as Sedna's orbit is still being refined.

• The Dexter's Laboratory movie, Ego Trip, has some scenes that take place in 2070.
• In Judge Dredd (and the 2000 AD fictional universe in general) 2070 was the year President Robert L. Booth started the Atomic Wars. Booth, last president of the United States, was deposed. The following year the Battle of Armageddon took place leading to the defeat of Booth's forces. [2]
• The events of the anime series Cowboy Bebop take place in 2071. The events of Cowboy Bebop: The Movie take place during Halloween of that year.
• The Nicktoon My Life as a Teenage Robot takes place in 2072.
• The computer game System Shock is set in 2072, as does the computer game Deus Ex: Invisible War in 2072.
