Baymont Inn & Suites is a hotel franchise owned by Wyndham Worldwide and based in the United States.[1]
The Budgetel chain began as an idea by Steven Marcus to create a limited-service, discount-priced motel chain. The first property, located in Oshkosh, WI, opened in 1973 and recently became a La Quinta Inn. A prototype hotel was designed in 1984 in the form of a long, linear three or four story boxlike building covered by precast concrete slabs. This design gave the Budgetel hotels a distinctive appearance. Each hotel features oversized rooms and interior corridors (Motel in America 207-208). The name was changed to Baymont Inn in early 1999 and there are currently 130 Baymont Inns and Suites open in the United States (as of October 1, 2006).
