Jerome Schottenstein Center (JSC) is located around the corner of Olentangy River Rd. and Lane Ave. in Columbus, Ohio. The center was built in 1996 to serve students, student athletes, coaches, staff, supporters and fans. The designers of the Schottenstein Center were Curt Moody (Moody/Nolan Ltd.), a former walk-on OSU basketball player, lettering in 1971, '72 and '73, and Sink Combers Dethlefs. First and foremost the home of the Ohio State University men's and women's basketball teams as well as men's ice hockey, the $116 million multipurpose facility also hosts a wide variety of special events, concerts, family shows and touring productions. It opened its doors to the public for the first time - November 3, 1998. It measures more than 700,000 square feet (St. John Arena would fit inside more than twice.). The Jerome Schottenstein Center is the largest arena in the Big Ten - seating up to 17,500 for hockey, 19,500 for basketball and up to 21,000 for concerts.
Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center is a 19,200-seat multi-purpose arena located on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The arena opened in 1998 and is part of the Jerome Schottenstein Center. It is home to the Ohio State Buckeyes basketball and men's ice hockey teams, in addition to live entertainment. Previously, the basketball teams played at St. John Arena while the ice hockey team played at the OSU Ice Arena. It is named for Value City department stores and Jerome Schottenstein of Columbus, late founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. and lead benefactor of the project.
The arena seats 17,500 for hockey and up to 21,000 for concerts (20,500 for end-stage shows). VCA's seating capacity makes it one of the nation's premier college owned arenas and the largest in the Big Ten. In its eight years as home of Ohio State basketball over 2 million fans have attended games in the arena. Ohio State ranked 18th in the nation in average attendance (15,390) for the 2005-06 season. It hosted the 2005 NCAA Frozen Four.
