Maize Rage
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Maize Rage is a student cheering section for the University of Michigan men's basketball team that emphasizes high levels of spirit and sportsmanship.
Founded in a down time for the program, this determined group rejuvenates the support that characterizes Michigan Basketball.
At 2000+ strong, the Maize Rage is now one of the many student fan sections in the country. Whether on the road to cheer the Wolverines to victory, outreaching to high schools, or packing the bleachers at Crisler Arena, the Maize Rage strives to conduct itself in the professional manner embodied by the University of Michigan.
The Maize Rage is comprised of all Michigan men's basketball student season ticketholders, and is led by the Michigan Superfan. While operated in accordance with the University of Michigan Athletic Department, the Maize Rage is also a registered U-M student group.
In recent years, groups of Maize Ragers have embraced several non-revenue Michigan sports teams, helping to support women's volleyball (along with The Zone), water polo, softball, and baseball among others.
[edit] The Michigan Full Court Press
The official newsletter of the Maize Rage is The Michigan Full Court Press. A new issue of the Full Court Press, or FCP, is published for each men's basketball home game, in addition to road games which a significant amount of Ragers attend. The Full Court Press received national media attention in February 2005[1], when Michigan State guard Shannon Brown was fired up by an FCP line noting his scoring regression against Michigan. Brown, who had scored six, four, and two points in his first three games against the Wolverines, went on to score 14 in the contest, leading MSU to victory over a depleted Michigan squad. Several other student fan publications have spawned from the Full Court Press, including the Match Point Post-Gazette Times (for women's volleyball) and the Bullpen Bulletin (for baseball).
