Lebanon withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 after refusing to show the Israeli entry by the singer Shiri Maimon on Lebanese television. This was due to legal restrictions in Lebanon that does not allow the showing of Israeli programmes.
The nation was forced to withdraw because of the contest's regulation that all countries taking part must show the entire event.
Had Lebanon solved the problems before the contest (an unlikely circumstance), it would have been represented in the semi-final in Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine on 19 May, 2005, by the singer Aline Lahoud with the song Quand tout s'enfuit (When everything flees). The song was written by Jad Rahbani.
Due to the withdrawal, Lebanon now faces a 3-year ban from the Eurovision Song Contest. It can rejoin the contest in 2009, but if the problems of broadcasting Israeli entries are not solved before then, it might never rejoin until the problem is corrected.
