Serangoon MRT Station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Serangoon MRT Station (NE12/CC13) is an underground station on the North East Line, Singapore. The station is located in the Serangoon Central area, at the intersection of Upper Serangoon Road and Serangoon Central. This station sees relatively heavy usage during peak periods, because a number of bus services that used to go to the city area now terminates at Serangoon bus interchange instead, when the North East Line is opened.
There are plans by Land Transport Authority to relocate the Serangoon bus interchange to the site above the Circle Line part of this station as part of an integrated development.
The artwork in this station under the Art in Transit programme is Memories of Childhood by Eng Joo Heng.
In June 2005 it was reported that the construction of the interchange with the Circle Line has resulted in the station being sunk by 1cm, after excavation hit an unusually large body of groundwater. As a result, trains bound for Punggol pulling off the station have to pass by the affected area at a lower speed.
