Aldwin | |
---|---|
Race | Tok'ra |
Gender | Male |
Television portrayer | William deVry |
Key episodes | "The Devil You Know" (first appearance) |
In The Devil You Know, he had orders from the Tok'ra High Council to launch a weapon at the core of Netu, causing a chain reaction that, within 12 minutes, would have destroyed the moon as well as Sokar's ship in orbit. Without Teal'c's intervention, this would also have killed SG-1, Martouf, and Jacob Carter/Selmak.
He agreed with Teal'c that if there were if there were time, they could attempt a rescue, this was war, and they did not dare risk Sokar rising to dominance among the Goa'uld, even if it cost their friends' lives.
When they got there, Sokar was in orbit, and Aldwin launched the weapon even though Carter had just contacted them . When Teal'c said there was still time to help the others escape, Aldwin said it would be suicide, and that they should leave immediately.
Aldwin was relatively helpful once he realized that aiding the escape was the only option Teal'c was going to allow, shouting instructions from behind the locked door about how to properly intercept the ring-transporter matter stream so as not to miss any of it, since the slightest error would kill those transporting out.
In Absolute Power came to Earth to verify that Shifu was the Harsesis, by using the zatarc-detecting device.
In Summit, when SG-17, a new team, went to Revanna for the first time, Aldwin was their guide, explaining things like how the Tok'ra tunnels work. He died on Revanna when Zipacna's forces attacked.

Anise, the symbiote, is a gifted scientist and historian. She has stated that "Anise" means "Noble Strength". Her host's name is Freya.
She has appeared on several episodes of Stargate including "Upgrades", when she delivered the Atoniek armbands to the SGC. She also comes to Earth during "Divide and Conquer" to extract information from Jack O'Neill and Samantha Carter who she believes to be za'tarcs. In this episode Freya admits being attracted to O'Neill, whearas her symbiote Anise was attracted to Daniel Jackson.
Although Anise could be classed as a recurring character, she has not been seen for many seasons.
[edit] Freya
Little is known about Freya, the host of Anise. In the episode "Divide and Conquer," she reveals her interest in Jack O'Neill and Anise's interest in Daniel Jackson. Anise states that she keeps a handwritten journal because Freya likes the tactile sensation of writing on paper. Her name is derived from the norse goddess of love and attraction, Freyja, which may explain some the outfits she wears.

Race | Tok'ra |
Gender | Female |
Rank | Goa'uld queen |
Birthplace | Unknown |

Egeria was the queen of the Tok'ra.
[edit] Background
Like many other Goa'uld she had assumed a role in Earth's history and represented herself as Egeria from Roman mythology.
Over 2,000 years ago, the Goa'uld queen Egeria realized her own wrongdoings and the fact that her species was responsible for great suffering in the galaxy. Because of this she gave birth to a new race, rebels to the Goa'uld, that she hoped would be able to stop Ra and the other System Lords. This new kind of Goa'uld became the Tok'ra ("Tok'ra" means "Against Ra").
Egeria later fought against Ra on the planet Pangar, and it was believed that she was killed in this battle. However, she was buried alive by Ra in a stasis jar so that she would suffer forever. This was also written in the ancient texts in her prison on Pangar.
[edit] Current
Sixty years ago she was discovered by the Pangarans who had heard of the great health caused by Goa'uld. They started experimenting on Egeria and her offspring and developed the drug Tretonin. While Tretonin gave them nearly perfect health, it also destroyed their immune system; making the Pangarans dependent on it. This happened because Egeria manipulated her offspring. She did so in the hope that the Pangarans would stop producing Tretonin. Egeria was also dying.
In the 21st century Pangar was visited by SG-1, who discovered the dying Egeria. They contacted the Tok'ra to discover a way to synthesize Tretonin. They did not know who she was until Jonas Quinn and Teal'c finished translating the writings on temple walls where Egeria was found. The Tok'ra were shocked upon discovering who she was and demanded her release. When the Pangarans refused, one of the Tok'ra sacrificed herself so that Egeria could use her host. After talking with the Pangarans, who apologized to her, she provided an antidote. She stated her pride in her progeny after being told of their works. After Egeria died, she and the body of her host were then taken by the Tok'ra to their base through the Stargate, to perform a ceremonial ritual to commemorate their fallen Tok'ra Queen.

[edit] Jolinar
Stargate character | |
Jolinar | |
---|---|
Race | Tok'ra |
Gender | Female |
Television portrayer | Tanya Reid |
Key episodes | "In the Line of Duty" (first appearance) |
Jolinar of Malkshur is introduced in the episode "In the Line of Duty". She took Samantha Carter as a host in an attempt to hide from an Ashrak (Goa'uld assassin). According to Teal'c, Jolinar once had an army that was about to defeat a System Lord when Apophis joined the fight. When the Ashrak finally caught up with her and Samantha, she gave her life to save Samantha's.
When she was captured, Jolinar's host had been Rosha, the mate of Lantash and Martouf. Rosha is described as having eyes the color of the waters of Marloon and hair the sand of Abydos. She had an affair with Bynarr, the warden of Ne'tu, Sokar's penal moon. She seduced Bynarr to get to the key from around his neck so she could use it to activate the transport rings that would take her to Delmak, the planet around which the moon of Ne'tu orbits. Jolinar did not talk about what happened on Ne'tu. The events are revealed later in Jolinar's Memories. Rosha is presumed dead.
Jolinar's presence in Samantha had significant effects on her. It is difficult to tell whether her personality had been completely altered or reverted back to something of the same as was before the blending. Samantha has since forgiven Jolinar for the forced blending.

[edit] Lantash
Lantash is introduced in the episode "The Tok'ra". His host is Martouf Lantash is rather passionate in his opinions, so Martouf usually did the talking for the two of them. Martouf was his host until Martouf died in Divide and Conquer. Lantash survived the death of his host and lived for over a year in a Tok'ra stasis chamber. However, when the Goa'uld attacked, the chamber was destroyed and Lantash was forced to enter a new host - a new SG member, Lt. Elliot. However, Lantash later died when he and Elliot sacrificed themselves to help the others escape the base which had fallen under attack by the Goa'uld Lord Zipacna.
Lantash and Martouf were lovers with Jolinar and Rosha.
[edit] Martouf
Stargate character | |
Martouf of the Tok'ra |
|
Martouf/Lantash | |
---|---|
Race | Tok'ra |
Gender | Male |
Rank | Tok'ra Representative |
Television portrayer | JR Bourne |
Key episodes | "The Tok'ra" (first appearance) |
Martouf is introduced in the episode "The Tok'ra."
Martouf first appeared in the Season Two episode "The Tok'ra", when he greets SG-1, who searched for the Tok'ra. During this meeting it is revealed that he and Lantash were the mates to the Tok'ra combination of Jolinar and Rosha. Since Jolinar blended with Samantha Carter, Martouf developed an interest in her.
Martouf was present when Apophis sought asylum at Stargate Command and Lantash recommended that the Goa'uld should be handed over to Sokar. Although the SGC was at first reluctant, they are later forced to do because Sokar nearly destroyed the iris. ("Serpent's Song")
He was the one who delivered the news that Jacob Carter was imprisoned on Ne'tu, and together with SG-1 went to Ne'tu to save him. During this journey it is revealed to him how Jolinar had escaped from Ne'tu. While being imprisoned on the moon he was questioned by its new leader Apophis, to reveal the planet where the main base of the Tok'ra is. During this questioning he sees a vision of Jolinar. Martouf was able to withstand the mental attack and gave him the wrong planet. Later, when Ne'tu was destroyed by a new Tok'ra weapon, he barely escaped with SG-1 and Jacob. ("Jolinar's Memories", "The Devil You Know").
Martouf died when he and the Tok'ra scientist Anise were investigating the use of za'tarcs by the Goa'uld. After all the members of the SGC and Tok'ra were tested and found free of za'tarc technology, it was revealed that Martouf was the only one not tested. They arrived just as Martouf attempted to assassinate the President of the United States. To prevent his brain from being damaged and unsalvagable for za'tarc research, Carter was forced to fire a second zat shot on him, killing him but preserving his brain. His death was cause for significant tension between Major Carter and Anise in the future. ("Divide and Conquer")
The relationship between Martouf and Major Carter was a complicated one. Sam often did not know if the feelings she felt for Martouf were hers or Jolinar's. However, after Lantash entered Elliot, he tells her that he loves her as Samantha, not Jolinar.
An alternate version of Martouf appears in the episode Ripple Effect. That universe's Martouf had joined SGC, to be closer to Carter. However, their relationship did not last. Martouf said Carter was now with someone else, and that universe's Dr. Fraiser revealed that their Carter was away from the SGC on maternity leave.

[edit] Selmak
Selmak is a Tok'ra High Council member. The death of Saroosh, Selmak's host, made it possible for Jacob Carter, Samantha Carter's father, to become host to Selmak. Jacob Carter became the link between the Tau'ri and the Tok'ra. Selmak has been called the "oldest and wisest" of the Tok'ra.
Selmak and Jacob have been helpful to Stargate Command on several occasions. His vast knowledge and experience and his access to Tok'ra resources make him a valuable ally. Selmak is so close to the humans of Earth, because of his host, that the other Tok'ra have complained about his divided loyalties.
Selmak was nearly 2000 years old when he blended with Jacob Carter and, consequently, in the twilight of his life. In Reckoning, Part II, after helping the Tauri defeat the Replicators, Selmak slipped into a coma. He lacked the power to give his life for his host Jacob Carter (as Jacob had insisted that Selmak use the last of his power to hold on and help him against the Replicators, rather than save Jacob) and died a short time before Jacob in the episode "Threads".
[edit] Jacob Carter
Stargate character | |
Jacob Carter as Selmak |
|
Jacob Carter/Selmak | |
---|---|
Race | Tok'ra |
Gender | Male |
Rank | Jacob: USAF Major General, Retired Selmak: Tok'ra High Councillor |
Birthplace | US, Earth |
Television portrayer | Carmen Argenziano |
Key episodes | "Secrets" (first appearance) |
General Jacob Carter (Ret.) was a USAF general and the widowed father of Samantha Carter and her brother Mark.
Jacob Carter is a frequently recurring character who is Samantha Carter's father and the Tok'ra liaison to Earth. Carter was a close friend of General George Hammond and managed to pull strings to have Samantha Carter transferred to NASA, hoping to give Samantha her dream of going to space. Samantha had rejected the offer, but was unable to tell him the real reasons behind that decision. When she stated this, Jacob revealed that he was dying of cancer, though it would be months before he would succumb to the illness. When SG-1 became aware of the existence of the Tok'ra through the memories of Jolinar, it became possible to cure his cancer with his blending with Selmak.
Upon their first meeting, the members of SG-1 were asked if they would be willing to become a host to Selmak, whose host was dying. Samantha suggested that her father could fill this role, thus saving his life and Selmak's and creating an alliance between the Tau'ri and Tok'ra. This enabled Selmak to engage in Tok'ra covert operations and also provide help to Stargate Command when problems arise.
- He aided the SGC in fighting the phase-shifted Re'tu, who aimed to eradicate Earth's population in an attempt to destroy the Goa'uld's ability to take hosts.
- He aided in the capture and murder of the System Lord Seth, who ran a cult in the United States. ("Seth")
- After discovering the Ancient device that was the basis for the Goa'uld regeneration technology, such as the sarcophagus, he and his daughter devised the Kull Disruptor. The Kull Disruptor became invaluable in fighting the army of Kull Warriors that Anubis had created to supersede the Jaffa. ("Death Knell")
- He played a key role in setting the Dakara Superweapon to the right pattern to attack the Replicators though he needed help from Ba'al. ("Reckoning").
He has been on off-world missions with SG-1, and frequently provides valuable knowledge and expertise which includes the ability to use a Goa'uld healing device. As the relations between the SGC and the Tok'ra have deteriorated, Jacob remains the strongest link between the allies, although Selmak lost influence in the Tok'ra High Council. It was believed by the more cautious elements of the Tok'ra that blending Tau'ri to Tok'ra symbiotes introduced a factor of recklessness, as the Tau'ri lived more freely than other Humans in the galaxy.
Jacob died soon after Selmak did. Before that, he told his daughter that he considered the years spend with Selmak as a gift, because without the blending he would have died from the cancer years before, and that he got to do amazing things in that time.
