Wonrei and Li-en
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wonrei and Li-en are two characters in the anime and manga series Zatch Bell!, known in Japan as Konjiki no Gash Bell!! (金色のガッシュベル!!), by Makoto Raiku.
Li-en is a kung-fu expert, and the daughter of a Chinese triad boss named Li-Akron. She longs for a boyfriend, but everyone she goes out with her gets too scared when they discover who her father is. Li-en decides to eat herself to death but is stopped by the mamodo Wonrei, who scolds her for her gluttony. Li-en tells him to go away, and attempts to use force, to no avail. They get along well, and Li-en is surprised to find that Wonrei isn't afraid of her father. As luck would have it, Li-en turns out to be Wonrei's bookkeeper.
Wonrei teaches Li-en how to fight using the book; Li-en taught Wonrei kung-fu. They become a powerful team, and despite Wonrei being a mamodo and Li-en being a human, they fall in love.
However, Li-Akron had been spying on their battles. One day he confronts Wonrei, telling him he knows about the battle to become mamodo king. He tells Wonrei that if Li-en gets hurt, he will pay. Wonrei allows himself to be exiled to a secret island, to keep from endangering Li-en.
Li-en goes to Japan and recruits Zatch Bell and Kiyo Takamine (Gash Bell and Kiyomaro Takamine), begging them to help her save Wonrei. They agree, and the trio go to the island. However, when they reach Wonrei's cell, they discover that Zabas and Galliont had been attempting to attack Wonrei and burn his spellbook. Zatch and Kiyo hold Zabas off while Li-en goes to Wonrei. Wonrei pretends to hate Li-en, in order to make her leave him, but after a lecture by Kiyo, Wonrei throws his spellbook to Li-en, and the couple defeats Zabas with ease.
After seeing how deep their love for each other was, Li-Akron lets them leave peacefully.
Wonrei and Li-en are later recruited by Dr. Riddles to fight Milordo-Z (who is really Zofis in disguise).
In the third story arc, Wonrei is forced to fight alongside a team of mamodo working to revive Faudo.
Wonrei's spells are mostly spells that can charge up a part of the body to make it stronger than a usual body part would be. By using martial arts in combination with his strengthened limbs, Wonrei gains immense power.
