European Cup 1970-71
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The season 1970-71 of the European Cup football club tournament was won by Ajax in the final against Panathinaikos FC. It was the first time the cup went to Ajax, beginning a three-year period of domination. UEFA had introduced for fitst time the penalty shoot-out as a way of deciding drawn ties - doing away with the unsatisfactory tossing of a coin. They had also decided that the away-goals' rule should apply to all rounds, and not just the first two as had been the case.
